Engineers

You have questions, sometimes challenges.  Will our living biofilter wall perform as it has been advertised to? Will it integrate with your existing or planned mechanical systems?  Will it deliver an economic benefit.  With Nedlaw Living Walls the answer will always be yes!

We get it.  The architect develops a design which includes our wall.  You are the one tasked with making all the parts work together.  Our wall is but one part of your challenge.  We have the resources and the desire to answer your questions, to meet your challenges.
The NEDLAW system is a new and exciting adaption of well established engineering technologies developed to deal with similar contaminants in industrial or environmental circumstances.  These backbone technologies are Biofiltration and Phytoremediation. Biofiltration is routinely used dealing with industrial air and water waste streams where the contaminants are passed through a biologically active zone and beneficial microbes oxidize the contaminants to their benign components.  The second technology is phytoremediation; the use of green plants to facilitate the recovery of contaminants brown field sites.  The NEDLAW system is actually a biofilter with the green plants integrated right into it.

Because of our origins as a University developed technology, we are well aware of the need for validation and evaluation of the technology.  We have published widely in conference proceedings and academic and trade journals.  We have adapted these findings into models that are routinely used in the field of mechanical engineering.

Calculating the impact of the system on the indoor space is done through determining the biofilter’s Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR).  CADR is a function of the amount of air treated by the biofilter (the product of its size and how fast air is being drawn through it) and its Removal Efficiency.  Our unique biofilter functions in the range of 0.05 to 0.10 m3 of air per m2 of biofilter (10 to 20 cfm per square foot) with a Removal Efficiency of 60%. The regenerated air from the biofilter can be used to either supplement or replace normal makeup air.

Your task is to make it all work in your project.  Our active biofilter and your existing or proposed mechanical systems.   This is no small challenge, but one that we have discussed over 100 times across North America. We are very adept at matching the installation of our living wall system to a great many existing and planned mechanical ventilation systems.
The first step is to talk to Nedlaw.  We are here to help.
